NYSC: Ondo State Coordinator charges corps members on core values of the scheme
The New Ondo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, Mrs. Grace Akpabio charged corps members on the core values of the scheme during a familiarisation tour Oke-Agbe Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government of the state.
Mrs Akpabio during her speech at the Oke-Agbe Akoko, Local Government secretariat advised the corps members to be of good behaviour and not forget the core values of the scheme. She said;
“The NYSC was extablished with the aim of among other thing; To inculcate discipline in the Nigerian Youth by instilling in them a tradition of industry at work,”
“To raise the moral tone of the Nigerian Youth by giving them the opportunity to learn about higher ideals of National achievement, social and cultural improvement.”
She also dismissed claims that corps members who were alleged of sending nude pictures of ladies’ to the internet have been arrested by the military.
Mrs Akpabio said the alleged corps members were only handed over to appropriate authorities, so as to secure them from possible attack by the victims and their relatives.
Mrs Grace also advised corps members serving in the State to always remember the core values of the NYSC scheme and remain of good behaviour. She said;
“We must not rule out the fact that the NYSC Scheme was designed to emphasize training in good citizenship and leadership which it has been doing over the years.”
“While the majority of out youths have internalized the ideals of the scheme, we could not however rule out few ones who due to peer pressure or faulty upbringing have chosen to take a contrary step.”
